DARIUS BLACKSTRIPE - Engineer, Artillerist, Gun-nut
Current Age: 31
Species: Canis Sapiens
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 230 lbs.
Blood Type: O-
Homeworld: Terra-4
Skills: An active career in Terra-4's military has given him extensive combat training, especially in the areas of suppressive and cover fire. He is fit and muscular, in peak physical condition. He is also a brilliant ballistics expert and engineer, being able to build and repair a catalogue of weapons. He is a competent mechanic, able to weld and cut metal, fix wires and even has a rudimentary understanding of computers. Finally, his training also included some hand-to-hand combat. A soldier and a techie through and through.
Background: Darius Blackstripe was born on Terra 4 in the Alpha Centauri system, the 3rd planet colonized by earth. His father owned a weapons manufacturing facility and was an accomplished ballistics engineer. Like a good son, Darius followed his father's passion for designing new and improved weapons, and learned to love the kick of a steel bolter at the age of 14.
However, Darius also longed for a more active life, and so combined his interests with weapons with his curiosity to explore by joining the Terra-4 spaceguard. He served for 5 years, learning how to build and operate many military-grade weaponry and equipment, and even developing some custom weapons for his regiment.
Upon relief of his duties, he was hired as an engineer for the Montagne company, headed by the unscrupulous Jerard Montagne VI, and his head scientist Dr. Gabriel Ehrgeiz. Under the direction of Montagne, Darius helped with the design and testing of a number of arms upgrades, and even created schematics and designs for entirely new weapons.
However, after catching a glimpse into some of Montagne and Ehrgeiz' shadier experiments and tests, Darius quit and decided to return to his military career. He has since joined the USAF as a Senior Airman, a post he enjoys, and uses his passion for weapons to protect his fellow soldiers and destroy the menaces of the stars.
Some of Darius' personal Arsenal:
The HY-2K "Steelstorm" Bolter:
While bolter weapons are common among many space marines and military forces, Darius sought to make a bolt-gun that would be terrifying to behold and deadly to fire. Instead of the single repeating barrel that is common on most bolters, Darius' Steelstorm integrates two firing mechanisms that alternate rapidly, shooting metal slugs at an alarming rate. For added suppression, he also welded in and attached two assault rifle chambers to fill the air with more lead, all fed from a back-mounted ammunition case. The end result was a gun that, while heavy to carry, was brutal in design and awesome in it's destructive power.
The Mark 1 "Omnishot" handgun:
More of an engineering feat than anything else, this hadgun is designed with a series of springs and moving plates that allow it to fire virtually any caliber of ammunition, even able to load and fire rifle rounds using a bolt-action attachment. It was intended to be used in hostile situations to allow for the use of enemy ammunition, a problem in previous sustained battles for the spaceguard. The only ammo it cannot utilize is heavy caliber/artillery rounds (obviously), and energy weapon charges (again, obviously)
The Gatling Laser:
A bit of a misnomer, and also the one weapon darius has failed to complete due to it's advanced tech. The weapon actually fires a blast of ions encased in a laser pulse, which literally smashes at the atomic particles in matter. It is, however, a painfully inefficient weapon, requiring massive amounts of energy condensed to fire, and also requires precise calibrations in a balance of it's twin energies: too much ionic energy and it fizzles upon firing, whereas too much energy routed to the laser mechanism turns it into a slightly uncomfortable flashlight. To add to all of this, it was built to be a high-yield automatic weapon. Perhaps one day Darius will determine how to make it work well, but for now it remains one of his unsuccessful experiments.
The Powered Arms array:
To date his only real non-blasting/shooting/firing weapon, it serves more these days as a utility, but has combat applications as well. Essentially a pair of robotic arms with heavy metal hands used to lift and manipulate the heaviest of machinery and materials. They also pack a massive punch. The technology allowing for the heavy arms to be wielded was actually developed by Jerard Montagne, using a series of gyros to give the massive armored fists momentum in all directions at once. All the wearer has to do is exert some strength in the right direction and let the array do the rest. This piece of equipment, due to the nature of it's control, requires some training to use beforehand.
